What to Do in Boston For Free – Attend a Concert
By Susan Vik
If you’re planning a trip to Boston but don’t want to spend a lot of money, you may be wondering what to do in Boston for free. If you love music, the answer is simple: you can attend a concert in Boston for free. How? All it takes is knowing where to find free concerts – and the good news is that Boston has a lot of them.
One reason for all the free musical performances is that Boston and nearby Cambridge have 4 colleges and conservatories specializing in music and musical performance. This means that on most days, you’ll have your choice of many top-notch concerts, recitals, and performances by emerging and established musicians – and most of them are free.
How do you find these free concerts? Simply by knowing where to look – usually on the Events Calendar that you’ll find on each school’s website. To further refine your search, it helps to know what kind of music you’d like to hear, and then see what’s offered at a school that specializes in it.

The Deal that brought Garth Brooks out of Retirement
Mr. Brooks had hung up his microphone nine years ago when he decided to go into retirement for looking after his three daughters, Taylor, August and Allie. The year 2000 was critical for his family as he was having his divorce in that year, so he decided to go into retirement and look after his three daughters and their schooling. The country music superstar will now come out of retirement and perform in the Wynn Casino of Las Vegas, thanks to a multi-million dollar deal proposed to him by the billionaire owner of the casino Steve Wynn.
Garth Brooks have decided to continue taking his daughters to school in spite of his reappearance, so as part of the deal, Mr. Wynn has included a private jet that will be at Mr. Brook’s disposal to take him to Las Vegas and back to his home in Oklahoma. The shows will be held only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays which will leave Garth Brooks with enough time to take his daughters to school on the weekdays. The open contract is signed in such a way that both Steve Wynn and Garth Brooks can pull themselves out of it if they wish to do so.
Initially the plan for the deal is to continue for five years with Garth Brook’s super-hit solo performances in the 1500 seated Encore Theater. The price of each ticket for Brook’s performances is said to be $125 and the tickets will be on sale from 24th October, 2009. His first public show will be on December 11th, 2009 but he has performed a private show for Mr. Wynn and his guests earlier though.
Jason Mraz – August 5
It was a memorable night for me at the Ban of America Pavilion in Boston, as one of my favorite singers have come to entertain us. The one I’m talking about is Jason Mraz. He was a good acoustic and rock singer like no other, and he’s a good guy too. Days before the concert, I have bought a ticket on the same venue. I won’t tell you the price but it’s quite cheap for me, so I bring along with my friends, composed of boys and girls which they bouhgt the cheap tickets at the Bank of America Pavilion.
It was a great night out there with my friends as the clock ticks off, the concert begins wit Jason Mraz introducing his band first before he goes to the main part, singing and entertaining us . The songs he played including my favorites, “I’m Yours” and “The Remedy”, and the rest of the songs he played are “Only Human”, “Fun, Fun, Fun”, “Beautiful Mess” , “Make it Mine”, “Butterfly”, “Who Needs Shelter”, “Unfold” and many more. His backup band were also very impressive in bringing rhythm to his songs and it makes the fans grow wild with excitement! He was one of the best I’ve ever known. Me and my friends will never forget about his concert here at Boston.
Cheers for Jason Mraz!
Fleet Foxes – July 14
It was quite a long day since the event has been slated at around July 14th, when Fleet Foxes are coming to town, and they are expected to perform at the Middle East Upstairs, Boston. The Fleet Foxes have quickly achieved their release of their own album, and they are more on acoustic type songs. For recent weeks, the tickets at the Middle East Upstairs are completely sold out for good, and there are no more other available spots for the late ones. They are also more on old folks songs together with their acoustic type. The songs they played on that night was really romantic and incredible as well, as the crowds cheer for them after each song played. Robin Packnold is their main leading singer, while other members like Casey Wescott (mandolin), Christian Wargo (bass), Skye Skjelset (electric), and Nick Peterson (drums), are backups for the lead singer.
Their awesome songs like Sun Giant, White Winter Hymnal and Ragged Wood, it was one of my favorites which they played and mostly applauded. But I think within the part of the concert break, one of the members chose a menu for which he and their band will eat while singing to them, and it was very unique for me and for them. I will never forget my experience here with Fleet Foxes. They’re one of the best bands ever!
